PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Uttarakhand gets a higher subsidy than the rest of India.

As a hill state, Uttarakhand's central subsidy rate is 10% higher — the cap is ₹85,800 here versus ₹78,000 elsewhere. It's paid straight into your bank account, and we handle the whole application.

Also: low-interest solar loans are available from banks under the scheme — we help with the paperwork. Note: the scheme runs only until 1 crore homes are covered nationwide (target March 2027) — the earlier, the better. Amounts are set by the government and may change.

Solar solutions

On-grid, off-grid or hybrid?

There are three kinds of systems — the difference is simply whether your power ties to the grid, a battery, or both.

On-grid solar

Tied to the UPCL grid via a net meter. Daytime surplus becomes credit, the grid covers nights. This is what the subsidy applies to — 9 out of 10 homes choose it.

most popular

Off-grid solar

Fully independent of the grid — power stores in batteries. For farms, tubewells and places the line hasn't reached. No subsidy, but total freedom.

no grid needed

Hybrid (battery backup)

Solar + battery + grid. Your home keeps running even during power cuts — worth it where cuts run long. In Uttarakhand, home hybrid systems also qualify for the subsidy.

Questions people ask us

Before you decide, know this.

How much will it really cost me?+
Most homes go for 2–3 kW. After the Uttarakhand-rate subsidy (₹66,000 on 2 kW, ₹85,800 on 3 kW), the out-of-pocket cost typically lands between ₹65,000 and ₹1.3 lakh depending on size and structure, and a low-interest scheme loan can spread that into easy EMIs. We quote exact prices only after seeing your roof — the survey is free.
What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?+
A central government scheme that pays a subsidy directly into your bank account for rooftop solar — ₹33,000 to ₹85,800 in Uttarakhand (10% higher rate as a hill state), aiming at up to 300 free units a month. Applications go through the national portal — we handle the entire process for you.
Why is the subsidy higher in Uttarakhand than the rest of India?+
Uttarakhand is a special-category hill state, so the central subsidy rate under PM Surya Ghar is about 10% higher here — ₹33,000 on 1 kW (vs ₹30,000 elsewhere), ₹66,000 on 2 kW (vs ₹60,000), and a cap of ₹85,800 on 3 kW & above (vs ₹78,000). It's not a separate state subsidy — it's the same central scheme, just at the higher hill-state rate, paid straight into your bank account.
What about nights and the monsoon?+
Your home stays connected to the UPCL grid. Daytime surplus flows into the grid and the net-meter credits it to you; at night or on cloudy days you draw from the grid. The month-end settlement is why your bill drops to near zero.
Who maintains and cleans it?+
Five years of maintenance is on us with every installation — checkups, repairs and cleaning guidance included. Panels have no moving parts anyway; a simple water wash once or twice a month is enough.
Is my roof even suitable?+
A concrete roof needs roughly 80–100 sq ft of open, sunny space per kW. Direction, shading and strength — we check all three in the free survey. Tin-shed roofs have solutions too.
Will solar work during a power cut?+
An on-grid system switches off during a cut for safety (it protects the linemen working on the wires). If cuts run long in your area, choose a hybrid system with a battery — your essentials keep running. We size the backup after seeing your loads.
How many units will my system generate?+
In Uttarakhand the yearly average is about 4 units per kW per day — so a 3 kW system makes roughly 350+ units a month. More in summer, less in monsoon; our estimates already account for the swing.
How long does the whole thing take?+
The installation itself takes 1–2 days. With government approvals, net-meter and subsidy, the full journey usually takes a few weeks — and we keep you updated on WhatsApp at every step.
